Downtown Water Line Replacement (E. Gladys/E. Main)

  • Replaces about 4,900 linear feet of water main line in downtown Hermiston with ductile iron pipe.
  • Line replacement along Gladys Ave. between N.E. 3rd Street and N.E. 7th Street, and along E. Main St. between N.E. 5th Street and N.E. 9th Street, as well as small portions on E. Hurlburt and S.E. 7th Street. (See map)
  • Reconstruction will depend on the condition of the pavement and location of water mains. (View the staff report)
  • Tees, valves, and old cast iron water line will be replaced.

WHY IT’S NEEDED

Sections of this water distribution system were installed in the 1920s with steel pipe, some of the oldest pipe in the city water system. This project will eliminate failing, deteriorating and undersized lines, reduce repair work, and improve public safety.
